Positive Labor Affirmations

It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.

The Importance of Positive Labor Affirmations

It can be life changing when you begin to speak {and think!} positively.  This certainly applies to any life experience, big or small, but especially your birth.

As your doula, it is my job to provide you with emotional support.  {I actually heard it said once that a midwife is for the waste down, and a doula is for the waist up, aka your heart and mind!}

One way as a doula I provide clients with emotional support is through encouragement and empowerment, because we can be very hard on ourselves.  We aren't always our own cheerleaders.

I am here to tell you that you are able, you are strong and you can achieve the desires and goals you have for your birth.

I sincerely encourage you to read through this graphic and list of affirmations and pick a few that resonate with you.

Surround yourself with your affirmations so they become engrained in your mind.  The goal of affirmation is for it to come naturally, almost second nature.

At first, you can use them to overcome the negative thoughts.  As you progress and use them more, they will, as Muhammad Ali said, become a belief.   This belief will encourage and empower you.

Positive Labor Affirmations:

  • During labor, I am completely relaxed

  • I trust my body knows exactly what it's doing.

  • My birth waves bring me and my baby closer to the shore.

  • I am releasing fear and tension from within me.

  • My baby and I are working together.

  • I trust the process.

  • I am in charge.

  • I can do this!

  • My courage is stronger than my fear.

  • I am prepared and ready for my birthing experience.

Please communicate to your birth team which affirmations are important to you AND which ones are NOT effective.  If your spouse, partner, loved one, birth doula, nurse, midwife, and doctor know what words really encourage you, they can help you by affirming these words to your in your birthing environment.

Our final post in this series will be Positive Birth Affirmations, including creative ways to create them and make them a part of your birthing environment.
